49ers sign Owen Marecic, place Ian Williams on injured reserve

The San Francisco 49ers have signed former Stanford and Cleveland Browns fullback Owen Marecic to a one-year contract weeks after working him out.

They placed nose tackle Ian Williams on injured reserve with a broken ankle suffered on a low block against the Seattle Seahawks.

Of course, Marecic played and played well for 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford.

The 24-year-old is a former Browns fourth-round draft pick

The 6-foot, 248-pounder was cut by the Browns last week.

The 2010 Paul Hornung Award winner, an award given for versatility, has rushed for eight yards in the NFL, catching five passes for 31 yards.
