49ers sign Quinton Dial to three-year extension

INDIANAPOLIS — The San Francisco 49ers have signed defensive tackle Quinton Dial to a three-year contract extension through the 2019 season. The 25-year-old Dial was a fifth-round pick by the 49ers out of Alabama in 2013 and had 59 tackles and 2.5 sacks last season while starting 15 games. General manager Trent Baalke says during his first three seasons Dial "has shown consistent development and has become a key contributor in our defense."
Dial has 90 total tackles, 4.5 sacks and two passes defensed in 32 games with 21 starts. His two blocked field goals in 2015 made him the first 49ers player to accomplish the feat in the same season since defensive end Lawrence Pillers in 1983.
