49ers-Seahawks rivalry getting ramped up a little
Go ahead and mark your calendar for the Week 16 meeting between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.
The bet here is Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has already done just that.
Sherman seems to have taken exception with his former college coach at Stanford Jim Harbaugh after the latest meeting between teams last week. Following the 49ers’ 13-6 victory over the Seahawks, Harbaugh suggested that Sherman and Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner crossed the line in being physical with the 49ers wide receivers.
“Sometimes, man, when the bully gets bullied, that’s how that happens,” Sherman said, according to the Seattle Times’ Danny O’Neil.
Sherman has been talking for some time. He called out Patriots quarterback Tom Brady after defeating New England earlier this month. Harbaugh and Sherman have a history, too. According to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, Sherman was suspended for one game while at Stanford in 2007 for screaming at teammates on the sideline.
Sherman also found it ironic Harbaugh would go after New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, who had been critical of the physical play of 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith. What comes around, it appears, is definitely going around.
