8-8 will not cut it for Andy Reid this season

A middle-of-the-road season will not save Andy Reid.

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie addressed the status of the head coach, who has been in place for 14 years. Another 8-8 finish will not be good enough to secure Reid’s future with the franchise.

No, it would not,” Lurie said this afternoon, according to Rich Hoffman of the Philadelphia Daily News. “I’m not going to make blanket statements. … I guess if two-thirds of the team is not playing, there’s always exceptions.”

But Hoffman points out that Lurie said repeatedly that another 8-8 season would not be good enough for Reid to remain in place. Reid’s current contract runs through the 2013 season and Lurie will not consider a new contract until after this year is completed.

Lurie also made it clear that the recent death of Reid’s son would not factor in any decision.

“He will always have our sympathy and support,” Lurie said. “But this is a business. You’re there to win and win big. You have to separate the two.”
