Aaron Hernandez pleads not guilty to double-murder charges
Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez pleaded not guilty to allegations that he shot two men at a Boston nightclub.
A prosecutor alleged that Hernandez was angered because one of the victims, Daniel Abrue, accidentally, bumped into him and spilled his drink, saying people annoyed the NFL player by “testing, trying or otherwise disrepecting him when he frequented nightclubs in the area."
The prosecutor said Hernandez followed Abreu and Safiro Furtado, the other alleged victim, and show them.
“I think I got one in the head and one in the chest,” Hernandez allegedly told a friend riding with him, per the prosecutor.
The prosecutor painted a picture of a friend who was with Hernandez now operating as a cooperating witness.
“Unlike the district attorney, we are not going to try this case in the media,” Hernandez's lawyers said. “Under our system of justice, Aaron Hernandez is innocent of these charges, and he looks forward to his day in court.”
Hernandez remains jailed on a first-degree murder charge for allegedly killing Odin Lloyd.
Hernandez was cut by the Patriots as he was indicted on the murder of Lloyd.
