Aaron Maybin goes unclaimed
Aaron Maybin is free to negotiate a contract with any team he would like.
Or any team he can find that will take him.
The first-round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2009 cleared waivers this afternoon, according to an NFL source. That means 31 teams passed on a chance to have him for three years at a relatively cheap price. Maybin was owed $757,500 this season and $3.36 million through 2013. But after doing next to nothing for the Bills for two seasons, the club cut him loose.
“I kind of hoped I’d see something from him,” said one veteran NFL scout who was at the Bills-Chicago Bears game Saturday night at Soldier Field. “Because I missed on him. I thought he would be a player. He needs someone to kick him in the butt because he’s got all the tools.”
Maybin will be looking for that team. He’ll probably be in a position where he has to sign for near the league minimum.
