Aaron Rodgers confident Packers will be OK minus workouts

Aaron Rodgers doesn’t have any problem heading into the 2011 season as the Green Bay Packers defend their Super Bowl championship without having had any player-run practices.

Speaking on a conference call in advance of the American Celebrity Championship, a golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Rodgers made it clear it’s not an issue for him, his coach or his teammates.

We did have a great gathering in Green Bay a few Thursdays ago,” Rodgers said, according to Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “Other than that, we haven’t had anything official. And the reasoning is that guys’ schedules and the risk-reward, which I think (coach) Mike McCarthy hit on. So I’m going to allow his comments to kind of answer that question as he did a couple of weeks ago. Mike has always been a big supporter of the work we do individually. I’ll just refer to what Mike said as far as some of that stuff goes and just leave it at that.”

That doesn’t mean Rodgers has been a bump on a log. He’s done individual work to ensure he’s in shape and ready to roll.

“I’ve been working on a few things,” he said. “I don’t really like sharing too much of the stuff I’m working on, but there’s always room for improvement. As I look at the season in review, there’s definitely going to be things I’m working on.”

Everyone will be watching how the Packers do coming out of the gates. It’s never easy to repeat and if they stumble early, some will surely wonder if their approach in the offseason hurt them. But you don’t hear any players complaining, that is for sure, and really how much work can be accomplished in player-run workouts?
