Adrian Peterson excused from practice for personal reasons

Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was excused from practice Wednesday, days after his two-year-old son died from injuries sustained in an assault allegedly committed by Joseph Patterson, a man dating the boy's mother.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier told reporters that he planned to speak with Peterson later Wednesday and that he would return to practice Thursday.

Peterson played Sunday in a loss to the Carolina Panthers.

"This is a very difficult situation, without question," Frazier said. "And it has many challenges, many challenges."
