Aging wonder London Fletcher would like to return to Skins
London Fletcher is coming off his third Pro Bowl season with the Washington Redskins and he’s preparing for free agency after the all-star game Sunday in Hawaii.
The 36-year-old is still a productive player in the middle of the defense but he’s not going to be playing too much longer.
“I like playing here,” Fletcher told Redskins’ team Web site. “When I came here, I wanted to help establish a tradition of winning, get this franchise back to the Redskins of old. Obviously the business aspect (of free agency) has to be worked out and you go from there. But my first choice is to stay in Washington, if they want me.”
He has been a model of durability and Fletcher will have to weigh returning to the Redskins or perhaps looking for a club that could be in better position to compete for a title.
“When you think about longevity and the consistency that God has blessed me to be able to do this – I kid and say it doesn’t mean a lot to me, but it does,” he said. “To be able to perform at a level like I’ve done at and to have done it for so long, I don’t take it for granted at all and I approach each week, each game, the same.”
The Redskins have said the right things about Fletcher, who is a respected leader. But the business side of things will have to work itself out.
