Ahmad Brooks fined $16,000
After 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks was flagged for making contact with Saints quarterback Drew Brees' neck on Sunday, it was apparent he'd be fined.
On Wednesday, the amount was revealed. According to ESPN, Brooks has been fined $16,000 for the hit. The play raised some controversey since Brooks first contact came with Brees' shoulder. However, his upper arm did hit Brees' neck and chin, which is why the referee threw the penalty flag.
But it doesn't appear Brooks will pay the entire $16,000. On Monday, former Ravens linebacker and current ESPN analyst Ray Lewis offered to pay half of any fine Brooks received. On Tuesday, former Patriots linebacker and ESPN analyst Tedy Bruschi offered to lessen Lewis' contribution by offering to pay a third.
If Bruschi and Lewis live up to their statements, Brooks will only wind up paying $5,333.33.
