Alan Faneca signs with Cardinals

It didn’t take long for Alan Faneca to find work, and he’s with some familiar folks.

Three days after the New York Jets cut loose the nine-time Pro Bowl guard, he has reunited with Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and offensive line coach Russ Grimm. Faneca reached an agreement on a one-year contract that will pay him $2.5 million this season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Jets parted ways with Faneca but they will still owe him a big chunk of change this season. As the National Football Post’s Andrew Brandt reported, the Jets owe Faneca $5.25 million this season because there was no offset in his contract. That means he can double dip this season and earn $7.75 million. Not a bad wage for a 33-year-old lineman.

In the mix on the interior of the line for the Cardinals are Reggie Wells, Rex Hadnot and Faneca. Deuce Lutui, who started this past season, is a restricted free agent. He has yet to sign his tender offer. Adding Faneca to the mix might just do the trick.
