Andy Reid has chatted with Michael Vick

Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid has spoken with Michael Vick from the Middle East but said that nothing has been decided about the team’s backup quarterback following the shooting of Quanis Phillips after Vick’s birthday bash last week in Virginia Beach, Va.

Reid, taking part in a USO tour with other NFL coaches, said that he stands behind the statement released by the Eagles, a simple one that indicated the team would continue to gather facts. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that team sources said the Eagles will stand behind Vick unless evidence comes to light linking him to a crime.

“I have spoken to Michael and I've looked into the situation," Reid told McLane this afternoon. "I'm aware of the things that are happening and I'll continue to be kept abreast about any recent developments.

“Nothing has been decided. I'm standing by the statement the team released last week.”

Other than that, the trip has been a good one for Reid. He had dinner with three Eagles fans at a base in Afghanistan.

“We talked about cheesesteaks and back home," Reid said. “They asked about the (Donovan McNabb) trade. But they were upbeat about the coming season."
