Andy Reid returns to work with Eagles

A day after his oldest son Garrett Reid was laid to rest, Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid is back on the job.

Reid returned to the team this morning and will coach the club in its preseason opener Thursday. It’s been an unimaginably difficult period for Reid since Garrett Reid, who was 29, was discovered dead in a dorm room Sunday morning on the campus of Lehigh University where the team holds training camp.

The was strong support for Reid and his family at the funeral Tuesday. What made him believe he could return to the job so quickly?

My heart,” Reid said according to Geoff Mosher of the Wilmington News Journal. “I felt it in my heart. I had the support of my family, my wife.”

It’s well known that Garrett Reid battled demons, including drugs. He worked hard to get clean.

“He cared about people,” Reid said. “Just got caught up in a bad situation. It's like fighting a grizzly bear. It's hard to win.”

Hopefully, Reid will find some solace in being back on the job in what will certainly still be a tough stretch for him and his family.
