Antrel Rolle says Tom Coughlin is too uptight
New York Giants defensive backs Antrel Rolle and Kenny Phillips were going through a little coach envy during a visit on WQAM radio in Miami when Rolle, who got a big free-agent deal last March from the team, called Tom Coughlin too uptight.
Rolle and Phillips were both marveling at the job Rex Ryan has done with the New York Jets this season in guiding them to the AFC Championship Game.
“Honestly, that's where the problem comes with me, as a coach,” Rolle said, according to the New York Post. “When you're talking about the coaching side of things, do I feel like things are a little too uptight? Yeah, I do. If he just loosened up just a little bit, run the ship the way you want to run it, run the program the way you want to run it but let us have a little fun, because at the end of the day that's what it's all about.”
It’s important to note that Rolle had complimentary things to say about Coughlin the man. “On a personal level he's one of the best guys you could be around," Rolle said. "Very caring. Honest guy."
But it’s clear Rolle and Phillips are intrigued with the idea of playing for Ryan. Rolle made it clear he didn’t like how early the Giants were required to be at the stadium onm game days during the season when he had a minor tiff with Coughlin.
