Are Redskins ready to roll with Graham Gano?
That didn’t take real long.
But apparently Mike Shanahan has seen all he needs to make a decision on his kicker for the Washington Redskins.
The team has released veteran kicker Shayne Graham, according to the Washington Post, and will stick with youngster Graham Gano, who struggled at times a year ago. Graham, the third-most accurate kicker in NFL history, missed two field goals Friday night in the Redskins’ preseason victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He missed from 29 and 49 yards. Gano, meanwhile, hit field goals from 32, 34 and 45 yards to account for most of the Redskins’ scoring.
Gano made 24 of 35 field goals tries last season and six misses came in the final seven games. But he has a strong leg and got touchbacks on all five kickoffs against the Steelers, something that certainly bodes well for his future. It remains to be seen if Washington will bring in another experienced kicker.
