Arizona's plan to re-sign QB St. Pierre on hold

Brian St. Pierre was supposed to rejoin the Arizona Cardinals this week.

Those plans appear to be on hold now.

Originally, St. Pierre was supposed to travel to Arizona this past weekend to take a physical and then sign a contract. Now, it appears the club could be considering going in a different direction for a backup quarterback.

According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, club officials asked him to delay those travel plans meaning the Cardinals could be considering a quarterback in the draft. That actually makes a good deal of sense. Arizona is handing over the offense to former first-round draft pick Matt Leinart this season and has a veteran in the fold already in Derek Anderson. Drafting a young quarterback would give coach Ken Whisenhunt a developmental passer to work with in the event, you know, Leinart nose dives with his opportunity.

The physical is an important element for St. Pierre too given he dealt with a back issue all last season, one that is supposed to be better with a new workout routine.
