Arizona's quarterback situation remains a dilemma
The great quarterback debate in Arizona rages on and the Cardinals didn’t do a whole lot to solve their dilemma Thursday night.
John Skelton and Kevin Kolb were both poor in a 32-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans at LP Field. It’s put the Cardinals in a difficult position because coach Ken Whisenhunt is going to have to make a choice soon and he doesn’t have anything he can point to that is going to inspire confidence in anyone.
“But you know, that's the way it goes sometimes," Whisenhunt said, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. “Kevin did some good things but we can't turn the ball over, that's what is disturbing.”
Kolb led a scoring drive at the end of the second quarter in a no-huddle attack. But he finished 17 of 22 for 156 yards with two interceptions, the second a terrible throw at the start of the third quarter that was intercepted by linebacker Colin McCarthy and returned 31 yards for a touchdown. Otherwise, it would have been a decent showing but he didn’t even see McCarthy. Skelton wasn't any better. He completed 4 of 10 passes for 41 yards and was picked off once.
“It numbs you," Whisenhunt said of Kolb's second interception.
That wasn’t the only thing numbing the Cardinals. They worked to replace Levi Brown at left tackle and that was a struggle. D.J. Young got the first crack at it and he was “overwhelmed” in Somers’ estimation. Then, D’Anthony Batiste was moved from right tackle to the left side and things improved a little.
So, decisions are waiting to be made. We’ll see how this plays out.
