Attorney asks prosecutors not to pursue case vs. Dez Bryant
Prosecutors have yet to announce if they will pursue charges against Dez Bryant for family violence following an incident with his mother.
But the attorney for the Dallas Cowboys wide receiver asked prosecutors not to pursue the case today, according to the Associated Press.
“Did a family disagreement occur? Yes,” lawyer Royce West said. “Did Dez Bryant commit family violence against his mother? No.”
Bryant was arrested Monday, July 16, two days after Angela Bryant, his mother, called 911 to report an assault. She told police he ripped her shirt and bra and that he struck her in the face with a ballcap.
Angela Bryant has since asked authorities not to pursue the matter, which could land Bryant in trouble with the NFL as well as the Cowboys.
“I would love to make a statement, but I can’t,” Dez Bryant said as he left. “I can’t.”
West said the family is working through counseling now, something that doesn’t affect whether or not an assault took place.
“They ask that there not be a rush to judgment concerning their family,” West said.
We’ll see which direction this heads, and if Bryant’s past is a good indicator, he’ll be in the news again soon.
