Banks grateful for chance with Falcons

At 28 and with no measurable football experience for a decade due to a false imprisonment, Brian Banks knew he was a long shot to make the Atlanta Falcons' roster.

But Banks is grateful for the opportunity the Falcons gave him to take part in training camp and preseason as he tries to revive a career that was wrongfully knocked off track with a five-year prison sentence.

Banks told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution after Thursday night's loss to Jacksonville that he has no anxiety regarding his fate when cuts come on Saturday.

“No anxiety whatsoever,” Banks said. “I tried my hardest, I worked my hardest when I came out on the field in the time I had to do what I do. It’s all up to coaches from here.”

There was one nice bonus for Banks, 28, who still has an outside chance to make the Falcons' practice squad. His mother got to attend Thursday night's game and see her son play in the NFL for the first time.

“She was a little choked up,” he said. “To have her here and get her in town and get her on the field and take pictures and show her what I’ve been up to these last few months is more than I can ask for.”
