Bears claim LB Jabara Williams off waivers from Rams
Chris Harris didn’t have a role on special teams for the Chicago Bears, but they have found someone who can contribute in that area.
The team has claimed linebacker Jabara Williams off waivers from the St. Louis Rams, giving he defense some needed depth.
In a span of less than a month, Harris returned from a pulled hamstring, was benched, requested a trade and finally was cut loose on Thursday morning, a move that surprised him. The Bears have elected to go forward with former third-round picks Chris Conte and Major Wright at safety.
Provided Williams passes the team’s physical, he’ll step in as a sixth linebacker who can contribute on special teams. The Rams cut Williams loose to make room for offensive tackle Mark LeVoir. It’s possible the Rams hoped to re-sign Williams, a seventh-round draft pick from Stephen F. Austin, to the practice squad.
