A low-risk investment in Brian Price did not pan out for the Chicago Bears.

The team announced this morning it will place Price, a second-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010, on waivers. The club needed to make room to sign Amobi Okoye, another former high pick that has turned his career around with a second chance.

The Bears dealt the Bucs a seventh-round draft pick for Price just 39 days ago. But Price isn’t in shape and the Bears apparently soured on the idea of having him as a developmental project with high upside. Okoye was with the Bears last season. He signed a $2 million, one-year contract with the Bucs but was let go last week when he received an injury settlement.

Price may one day recapture his ability but he will have to get in better shape to compete so he can practice more consistently.

The Bears have another defensive tackle waiting in the wings. Nate Collins is on the reserve/suspended list for the first week of the season. The club will need to clear a roster spot to add him next week.
