Bears excuse Marshall day after his complaint about hip

The Chicago Bears gave star wide receiver Brandon Marshall days off through Sunday, a development that follows just one day after he complained about his slow recovery from arthroscopic hip surgery.

According to ESPN Chicago, Marshall had a previously-scheduled appointment regarding his hip.

Bears coach Marc Trestman indicated that Marshall will return to team Sunday prior to practicing Monday.

"This was a planned-out miss today for personal reasons," Trestman said. "It's something that was part of the offseason plan since we started training camp."

"As far as me not being out there today, this is something we've had planned since camp [opened]," Marshall told ESPN Chicago "I had some things I needed to do, and I sat down with Coach Trestman and we decided [Wednesday] would be the best time to do it. It's nothing serious, but I'll just keep my personal business to myself. Other than the hip, I'm feeling great and life is good. And my hip's gonna be great, too. But it's all about this recovery, which has been a little frustrating."

Trestman didn't elaborate on what's going on with Marshall, who's clearly not in lockstep with the organization.

"I'd rather just leave it to personal reasons out of respect to Brandon, but it's all good," Trestman said. "As I've said when I let guys go for personal reasons, it's all good, and this is all good. It's not reflected in anything other than I gave him time off."

With focus intensifying on this situation after Marshall griped publicly this week, his agent, Kennard McGuire, issued a statement: "Brandon is accustomed to executing and playing at a high level, and being the perfectionist that he is, his expectations of himself are very high. Anything less than elite is unacceptable to him. As far as him not being there, this has been planned with the Bears and Brandon long before yesterday. Any other suggestion, thought or implication are all unfair to Brandon and the Bears organization."
