Bears place Cutler, Forte on injured reserve
Lovie Smith has said for weeks now that Jay Cutler and Matt Forte are getting better.
They didn’t heal fast enough to return this season, though, as the Chicago Bears placed their two top offensive players on injured reserve today, ending their seasons five days before the team will close out the 2011 schedule at Minnesota.
Cutler is scheduled to have pins removed from his right thumb today. He has been sidelined since suffering a fracture Nov. 20. Forte suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee Dec. 4 against Kansas City and has not played since.
The Bears will start Josh McCown at quarterback Sunday at Minnesota and Kahlil Bell has assumed the top running back position with Marion Barber out with a calf muscle injury.
