Bears sign FB Eddie Williams
The Chicago Bears have signed fullback Eddie Williams to a one-year contract.
Williams, a seventh-round draft pick last year by Washington, was released last week by the Redskins. He suffered a broken left leg in practice in early November, so he had to pass a physical before the team would let him go.
Williams is an interesting addition for new offensive coordinator Mike Martz because he was a skilled pass-catching tight end at Idaho. Williams caught 54 passes for 687 yards and six touchdowns as a senior when he also suffered a torn ACL in his right knee.
He’ll join the mix with veteran starter Jason McKie. The Bears begin their voluntary offseason workout program on March 29.
