Bears sign Matt Gutierrez

BOURBONNAIS, Ill.—On Day 4 of their search for another quarterback, the Chicago Bears got the job done, signing Matt Gutierrez this morning.

He will join the team in practice this afternoon at Olivet Nazarene University and gives the team a third arm with Caleb Hanie sidelined for maybe a couple weeks with a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder.

It figures that Gutierrez is just a camp arm, but you never know. Hanie has to heal up and if Gutierrez, who was noted for his work ethic and preparation by Kansas City Chiefs coach Todd Haley, can open some eyes, perhaps he can create an opportunity for himself.

The Bears have yet to announce the signing. They will have to make a corresponding move to create room for Gutierrez.
