Bears sign QB Dan LeFevour
And then there was one.
The Chicago Bears signed their fourth draft pick in five days this afternoon, inking quarterback Dan LeFevour to a four-year contract. That leaves only Major Wright, the third-round pick from Florida, to sign. It looks as if contract negotiator Cliff Stein will easily meet the goal he gave agents for having the team’s five draft picks under contract by May 28.
The Bears begin their three-day minicamp Friday morning at Halas Hall. LeFevour, a sixth-round pick from Central Michigan, will be working for a job as the No. 3 quarterback on the roster. The Bears kept only two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster last season and the practice squad man, Brett Basanez, was released Thursday.
LeFevour is an excellent athlete but it remains to be seen whether or not he has the arm strength to run Mike Martz’s system.
The Bears are expected to include a not-likely-to-be-earned incentive in the contract for Wright. It’s something the team did last season with its third-round picks – defensive lineman Jarron Gilbert and wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias.
