Bears will kick tires on Maurice Evans
BOURBONNAIS, Ill.--The Chicago Bears signed defensive end Maurice Evans to take a look at the Penn State product who had a 12-sack season as a sophomore in 2007.
Evans spent most of last season on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He left school with one year of eligibility remaining and went undrafted. Originally, he signed with the New York Giants and after a strong preseason he was claimed off waivers by the Bucs. They kept him on the active roster for Week 1 and then cut him. He was on the team’s 80-man roster in the offseason and was released in June.
The Bears have a crowded picture at defensive end, and have rookie fourth-round pick Corey Wootton to develop. But they’re always interested in looking at pass rushers. To make room for Evans, punter Richmond McGee was waived.
