Bears wrap up interviews for general manager job

The Chicago Bears wrapped up a week of interviews as the franchise works to find a replacement for general manager Jerry Angelo, who was fired 18 days ago.

The Bears interviewed five candidates at Halas Hall this week – Patriots director of pro personnel Jason Licht, Chargers director of player personnel Jimmy Raye, Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross, Bears director of player personnel Tim Ruskell and Chiefs director of college scouting Phil Emery.

Dan Pompei, reporting for the Chicago Tribune, says it won’t be a surprise if the job goes to Emery, who worked previously as a regional scout for the Bears for six years.

He's one of the hardest workers I've ever been around," Chiefs general manger Scott Pioli told Pompei. "I can't overemphasize the hard working part. He's outstanding at his job. Detailed, meticulous, organized."

The Bears announced there will not be any additional candidates added to the mix. So, the team will need to weigh options heading into this coming week and determine if a second wave of interviews is necessary.

Angelo was fired with two years remaining on his contract. The new general manager will be required to keep coach Lovie Smith for at least one season.
