Belichick comes under fire for Haynesworth flop

Bill Belichick may be losing his Midas touch of turning other teams' trash into Patriots treasure.

The Albert Haynesworth release is just the latest move that did not work out in New England, writes Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald.

Once upon a time, Belichick had the magic touch of getting malcontents from other teams like Corey Dillon and Randy Moss to come to New England and change their ways long enough to get productivity and success out of them.

But recent gambles on Haynesworth and Chad Ochocinco have not worked out, and Guregian also points out the myriad shuffling done in the secondary (including Leigh Bodden's recent release) and the defense as a whole that has the Patriots scuffling in ways seldom seen during the Belichick era.

Of course, everything is magnified by two consecutive losses to Pittsburgh and the New York Giants. But something tells me that if the Patriots handle business Sunday night against the rival New York Jets all the talk of the defensive woes, the poor personnel moves and the Haynesworth saga will fade away just as quickly as the criticism arose.
