Benched after loss in Detroit, Chris Harris lands with Lions
Chris Harris has found a quick way to move up in the NFC North standings.
He wasn’t going anywhere with the Chicago Bears, not this weekend anyway with them on a bye, but the Detroit Lions claimed the veteran safety off waivers. Harris is familiar with his new team and the division.
What’s interesting is Harris’ quick slide out of town began after he allowed a 73-yard touchdown pass to Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson in a loss for the Bears earlier this month at Ford Field. Perhaps the Lions will look to pair Harris with talented free safety Louis Delmas. They have been using Amari Spievey at strong safety.
Harris doesn’t have the speed to help in coverage but could be a box safety for a Lions’ run defense that has been trampled in recent weeks. Harris is in the final year of his contract.
