Bengals' Dalton chosen as Rookie of the Month

Winning apparently counts in the eyes of those who selected the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Month for October.

Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton received the honor, edging Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton for the award.

Dalton had six touchdown passes and five interceptions in the month of October, compared to Newton, who had seven TDs and five picks in the same month.

For the season, Newton has completed 174 of 287 passes for 2,393 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions, compared to Dalton, who is 136 of 218 for 1,479 yards with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions. Newton also has 319 yards rushing for the Panthers thus far this season on 63 attempts.

The biggest difference? The Bengals are 5-2, including 4-0 in October, whereas the Newton's Panthers are 2-6 and finished October at 1-4.
