Bengals hire two position coaches
The Cincinnati Bengals announced the hiring of two position coaches to their staff.
Paul Guenther, who has already been coaching with the team for eight years, mostly as an assistant special teams coach and assistant with linebackers and defensive backs, was named the Bengals new linebackers coach.
“Paul is very deserving of this opportunity to continue advancing and to coach a position of his own,” Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. “Mike Zimmer (Bengals defensive coordinator) and I both have high confidence levels working with Paul, and we’re excited about what he can bring our defense in this new role.”
Mark Carrier, a former NFL safety, was hired to be the team's new defensive backs coach. He spent the past two seasons as a defensive line coach with the New York Jets.
“Mark is a great choice for us as he moves back to his old position, coaching the defensive secondary,” said Lewis. “He experienced success as a coach with two fine NFL defenses, and he will do very well with our group.”
