Bengals re-sign Roland, place Hawkins on injured reserve-designated to return

The Cincinnati Bengals placed wide receiver Andrew Hawkins on injured-reserve designated to return.

He's eligible to return as soon as the ninth game.

Last season, he caught 51 passes for 533 yards and four touchdowns.

The Bengals brought back offensive tackle Dennis Roland, a 6-foot-9, 315-pound sixth-year player.

He was cut Aug. 31 during the final major roster cutdown.

The Bengals signed former Jets quarterback Greg McElroy to the practice squad.

McElroy (6-foot-2, 225 pounds, Alabama) is a third-year NFL player, having spent the last two seasons and the 2013 preseason with the N.Y. Jets. He passed 11 for 19 for 145 yards with one touch and no interceptions for the Jets this past preseason, but suffered a knee injury.
