Bengals sign first-rounder Kirkpatrick
The rookie deals for all players, including first-rounders, are beginning to trickle in.
On Friday, the Bengals reached a deal with first-round pick Dre' Kirkpatrick of the University of Alabama.
Kirkpatrick, chosen 17th overall, agrees to his four-year deal (with an option for a fifth) not long after 16th pick Quinton Coples came to terms with the New York Jets on Thursday.
It’s great for the club and great for Dre to have him signed this early,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “Contracts can be a distraction for young guys drafted high, but now he can put all that behind him and focus on making himself better and making us a better team.”
Kirkpatrick said he was glad to have the contract finished so he can embark on his career as a Bengal.
"Like Coach (Lewis) says, it’s just great to have this part done,” Kirkpatrick said. “I’m happy to officially be a Bengal, and I’m going to be the best player I can be for the team and our fans.”
