Benson serving sentence on assault charge
Cedric Benson won’t be breaking tackles this weekend for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Instead, he could be breaking rocks, so to speak.
Benson began serving his 20-day jail sentence in Austin, Texas for an assault charge there in 2010 and will miss Cincinnati’s preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts.
According to Kevin Goheen of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Benson may only have to serve seven days with time off for good behavior, which would put his release at Sept. 6, giving him a full week of preparation for the regular season opener in Cleveland.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis also said that newly acquired cornerback Kelly Jennings will not play against the Colts either.
