Big receiver Aromashodu not tendered by Bears
If you used the final month of the 2009 season as a gauge, it looked like Devin Aromashodu was headed for big things with the Chicago Bears.
The big wide receiver had emerged as a preferred target of Jay Cutler. It looked like Aromashodu’s career was ready to take off.
The Week 1 opener this past season did nothing to dispel the idea either. Cutler targeted Aromashodu a team-high 10 times and he caught five passes for 71 yards. Then, Aromashodu disappeared, deep into the dog house of offensive coordinator Mike Martz.
So it’s not a surprise that the Bears did not tender Aromashodu as a restricted free agent, meaning he will be unrestricted when the new league year begins.
Because Aromashodu is 6-2, 201 pounds and has had some success before, he’ll catch on somewhere. He made 22 receptions for 282 yards with four touchdowns in the final four games of 2009. Perhaps former Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner, now the quarterbacks coach for the Indianapolis Colts, will express interest. Aromashodu will be 27 in May, but someone will take a look at him.
