Biggs: 49ers to miss LT Staley for 6 weeks

The San Francisco 49ers took a hit in their loss at Indianapolis on Sunday as it was announced Monday that left tackle Joe Staley will miss six weeks with a sprained right knee suffered on the first play of the game.

Staley has been the club’s best and most consistent lineman since his rookie season in 2007 and puts them in a bit of a bind having already lost free-agent pickup Tony Pashos for the season to a broken shoulder blade. Staley reportedly suffered sprains of the medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments.

Veteran Barry Sims filled in for Staley on Sunday, and is expected to hold down the role. Adam Snyder regained the right tackle job after Pashos was injured. The only remaining tackle on the roster is Chris Patrick, a recent addition off the Chiefs’ practice squad.

“I know our offense will continue to get better, and we just have to continue to work around it and do whatever we have to do,’’ coach Mike Singletary said.
