Biggs: Bears begin to oust coaches
The Bears have started the process of change this morning as Lovie Smith individually meets with his coaching staff at Halas Hall.
The Chicago Tribune reported that offensive coordinator Ron Turner has been fired with one year remaining on his contract. ESPN Chicago reported that tight ends coach Rob Boras has also been fired. It is believed that quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton will be let go and the fate of offensive line coach Harry Hiestand and running backs coach Tim Spencer is unknown. Wide receivers coach Darryl Drake is out of contract, although general manager Jerry Angelo has praised him for his work recently.
Smith is also expected to replace himself as defensive coordinator, and the Tribune has reported that job will go to Rod Marinelli, who was hired as the line coach last January. Marinelli was Smith’s first choice to be defensive coordinator when he assembled his original coaching staff in 2004, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would not release him from his contract.
Stay tuned for more developments. The Bears are holding a press conference at 3 p.m. ET.
