Kevin Jones’ previous experience in Detroit with Mike Martz, where he once caught 61 passes in a season, wasn’t enough to save him a job with the Chicago Bears.

Jones passed his physical Tuesday morning, getting cleared fully to return from a preseason ankle injury that required surgery and put him on injured reserve, and then was given the boot.

The writing was on the wall when the Bears struck quickly in free agency, signing running back Chester Taylor, an unrestricted free agent from the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears re-signed Jones last year with the hopes of him complementing Matt Forte but that never materialized and now he’ll have to work to find a new job.

"I'm just thankful for the opportunity the Bears gave me here," Jones told Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune.</p>

The Bears figure to take Garrett Wolfe and Kahlil Bell to training camp with them but it could be that only one makes the team. Forte and Taylor will compete for the starting job.
