Biggs: Bears interview Zampese for OC job

The Cincinnati Bengals were able to retain defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer today, but their quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese was in Chicago where he became the first person to interview for the vacant offensive coordinator position.

Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune reported that Bengals coach Marvin Lewis and owner Mike Brown granted Zampese permission to meet with the Bears despite the fact that he signed a contract extension earlier this season.

The Bears are working to replace Ron Turner and then fill out the offensive staff as three position coaches were also relieved of their duties. Jeremy Bates turned down an opportunity to interview for the job and the Green Bay Packers denied the Bears permission to speak with their quarterbacks coach, Tom Clements.

The Bengals may demand a decision soon on Zampese as they will need to replace him if he departs. But the Bears are likely to do a thorough job in the process and are expected to talk with numerous candidates.
