Biggs: Beason in, Willis out at Pro Bowl
Players have been dropping out of the Pro Bowl early and often and just about 48 hours before the game Carolina linebacker Jon Beason has replaced Patrick Willis.
Turns out the San Francisco 49ers star is battling a little bursitis in his knee and he’s decided to bow out of the game, creating an opening for Beason.
Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat does some terrific math. He points out that there are a total of 44 players on each Pro Bowl squad. Fourteen more openings were created by the players on the Colts and Saints that will not play in the game. Then factor in that at least 17 other players have backed out of the game. That creates a total of 119 Pro Bowl players. As Maiocco notes, one out of every 12.1 players on a 45-man gameday roster can claim to be a Pro Bowler. Wow.
