Biggs: Bruce Allen takes over for Redskins
That didn’t take long.
Multiple reports indicate that the Washington Redskins have hired Bruce Allen as their vice president of football operations and general manager, a move made within hours of the resignation of Vinny Cerrato.
That will fuel immediate speculation that Jon Gruden, Allen’s close personal friend, will soon head from the ESPN “Monday Night Football” booth to become the next coach of the Redskins.
Allen and Gruden were teamed together in Tampa Bay, and worked previously in Oakland. Allen has ties to the organization as his father is Hall of Fame coach George Allen.
Many NFL insiders consider Allen a numbers guy who is good with contracts and working with agents. The drafts that the Bucs had under Allen and Gruden did not produce a lot of talent and that is one of the primary reasons why the team struggled since winning Super Bowl XXXVII. The Redskins have some young talent but are in need of much more, and should be positioned with a strong pick in the 2010 draft.
