Biggs: Bucs' Smith suffers second concussion
No one got thrown out of the game this time, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers return man Clifton Smith, a former Pro Bowl performer, suffered his second concussion of the season on Sunday.
Smith, who was knocked cold attempting to field a punt on a vicious hit by Carolina’s Dante Wesley earlier in the season, got KO’d this time covering a kick. Panthers offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz fielded a short kick and Smith took the worst of the collision.
“I went in low and took a shot,” said Smith, who remained prone on the field for a couple minutes. “I got a little concussion, but I felt a lot better as the game went on. It was nothing like the last time.”
Last time, Wesley was ejected from the game and drew a one-game suspension. This time, Smith might have to consider sitting out the final four games for his health and safety.
