Biggs: Cardinals have decision to make with Gandy
The Arizona Cardinals have a decision to make with left tackle Mike Gandy: wait to see if he can come back in a few weeks, or break off with a fresh plan for the playoffs.
The veteran will be sidelined three to six weeks following surgery to repair a sports hernia on Friday, and the timing of it will put the postseason in question for Gandy. The Cardinals have clinched the NFC West, but figure to be playing on the first playoff weekend.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt said he didn’t know how the decision would go right now, and unless the Cardinals get hit with some more injuries, they’ve got time. However, they are one of the few teams in the league carrying two kickers with Neil Rackers battling a groin muscle injury, and they lost a safety in Matt Ware last week.
Jeremy Bridges and Brandon Keith are in position to fill in with Gandy out. The injury had been bothering him for weeks, and the Cardinals had been calling it a pelvic muscle injury.
Gandy will be an unrestricted free agent following the season.
