Biggs: Cutler to pay a price for being bad
You can’t say Jay Cutler will walk away unpunished.
The Chicago Bears quarterback has been bad and he’s going to pay for it.
No, it has nothing to do with his interception tear of late, either. Cutler has been fined $20,000 by the NFL for abuse of a game official. He was penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct for his actions with officials in the Bears’ loss to Arizona last Sunday at Soldier Field. Defensive tackle Tommie Harris picked up a $7,500 fine for punching Arizona’s Deuce Lutui, a stunt that got him ejected from the game.
Cutler’s fine and penalty for arguing with officials is the second time in as many years a Bears captain has been so punished. Middle linebacker Brian Urlacher received the same fine for abuse of game officials last season at Atlanta.
Lovie Smith maintains the Bears are a disciplined team and the penalties of late—the team had 10 for 75 yards Thursday night at San Francisco—are out of character.
