Biggs: Eagles pay up for violations vs. Buccaneers
The charities that benefit from the collection of fines by the NFL can send a big thank you card to the Philadelphia Eagles headquarters.
The NFL collected $15,000 from Eagles players, according to a report in the Delaware County Times. Defensive end Victor Abiamiri was docked $5,000 for hitting Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Johnson in the facemask, a play that drew a penalty.
Cornerback Asante Samuel was fined $5,000 for his facemask violation against running back Derrick Ward. Facemask penalties have pretty much been guaranteed fines this year.
Middle linebacker Omar Gaither was also zapped $5,000 for hitting wide receiver Michael Clayton out of bounds.
One of the benefitting groups from NFL fines is the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund, formed in honor of the former Chicago Bears running back.
