Biggs: Eagles sign CB Pope off Bengals' practice squad

With injuries tearing apart their secondary, the Philadelphia Eagles made a move today by signing cornerback Geoffrey Pope off of the practice squad of the Cincinnati Bengals.

He takes the place of inexperienced cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu, who was recently promoted from the practice squad but was waived.

Pope began the season on the 53-man roster of the Bengals and played in four games with them, mostly on special teams. Pope has spent time previously in Miami and with the New York Giants, playing for them in their 2007 playoff run.

The Eagles lost cornerback Asante Samuel to a stinger on Sunday night in their victory at Chicago. Sheldon Brown was playing with a pulled hamstring and nickel cornerback Joselio Hanson is in the midst of a four-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.
