Biggs: Falcons have decisions to make on free agents
With free agency set to kick off in 19 days, teams are working fast to sort through their own situations while also assessing what might be available in free agency.
The Atlanta Falcons made their first move last week when they signed veteran wide receiver Brian Finneran to a one-year contract extension. More work looms ahead, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The Falcons have eight players poised to be unrestricted free agents, per the report, with key decisions looking for cornerback Brian Williams and backup quarterback Chris Redman. Williams didn’t join the team until Sept. 6 and quickly became a starting left cornerback. The decision to pursue him will likely depend on how comfortable the team is about his health. He was lost for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, suffered in an October victory over the Chicago Bears.
Redman got some playing time when starter Matt Ryan had a toe injury, and he engineered a comeback victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s played his role well and it would make sense bringing him back.
