Biggs: Forte has arthroscopic knee surgery
Now, maybe there is an explanation for some of the struggles of the Bears’ running game this season.
Matt Forte, who rushed for 1,238 yards as a rookie before slumping in his second season, has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, the Chicago Tribune reported. He suffered a slight MCL injury in Week 3 at Seattle, but never missed any time and it was assumed everything was OK in a season in which he rushed for only 929 yards (3.6 yards per carry).
The Bears are putting a priority on revamping their ground attack and took the first step in that process by hiring Mike Tice as the offensive line coach. Forte remained a complementary receiver and caight 57 passes for 471 yards.
The Tribune also reported that punter Brad Maynard has had arthroscopic hip surgery. He was dogged by a groin muscle injury in the final weeks of the season.
