Biggs: Gaither done for season in Philly
The trade earlier this week by the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire veteran linebacker Will Witherspoon from the St. Louis Rams makes even more sense now.
Coach Andy Reid announced this afternoon that Omar Gaither, who Witherspoon was acquired to replace at middle linebacker, will miss the remainder of the season to undergo surgery to repair a LisFranc injury in his right foot. Originally, it was thought to be just a foot sprain that he suffered in the Eagles’s surprising loss at Oakland, but more medical tests determined the nature of the injury. The Eagles obviously had an idea this could be the case when they made the trade on Tuesday just before the deadline.
Gaither will head to injured reserve where middle linebacker Stewart Bradley landed before the season began. Witherspoon is expected to start Monday night at Washington. Jeremiah Trotter could see some time at the position too.
